Most of the EU funding nowadays emanates from the national authorities of various Member States as well as from the European Commission which grants direct funding for the benefit of education, consumer protection, innovative enterprises and non-governmental entities planning to help towards the common values and objectives of the Community system.

The grant of funds to a particular business, project or undertaking can either come from the centralized funding system of from the decentralized type of funding. Essentially the centralized system is administered by the European Commission in Brussels and Luxembourg, whilst the decentralized system is administered by various member states according to their own priorities.

We tend to concentrate on the decentralized funding system which is ideal because it promotes trans national co-operation within the EU sphere whilst the centralized funding system is more based on an international multilateral co-operation between member states and is more complex to achieve.

In the centralized funding system, some of the various and most important programmes are:

   eContent    Media+   eTen

Socrates

Leonardo

Marco Polo

Life

Culture 2000

Youth

ELearning

 Town Training

6th Framework programme

Every programme has its own budget and usually it changes every 4 years depending on the demand and of the size of the European Union.
